At Their Feet Piety Towards Parents

"And your Lord has decided that you worship none other than Him," declared Allah the Most High. Additionally, you obey your parents." [17:23] No one has realised an enormous favour to any person than one's parents, after Allah Almighty. His mother had an adamant time carrying him and endured a lot of pain and suffering. His parents are giving him their all, giving him their love and support, working hard to spend time with him, and sleeping through the night to take care of him while putting their needs and wishes on the back burner. Islām has taken considerable measures to emphasise reverence for parents and to suggest corresponding rewards and penalties. A person with even the most basic common sense knows that the person doing him a favour has rights, and failing to acknowledge those rights is one of the most deficient traits one can have. A person who is obedient and kind to his parents should understand that, despite his best efforts, he will never be able to express his gratitude or repay them for the rights and benefits Allah has bestowed upon them. Ibn al-Jawzī, the famous and distinguished scholar, wrote this heartfelt book after observing the disrespect and indifference that some young people in his era showed toward their parents and relatives and not considering it an essential component of Islam. He felt compelled to put together a brief pamphlet about these responsibilities so that others who were ignorant could pay attention and reconsider the gaps in their responsibilities. He organised it into coherent chapters that touched on the divine justification for upholding familial bonds and obeying parents. The English translation of 'Birrul Wālidayn' by Ibn al-Jawzī will significantly improve our connections with our parents and families. And to whomever He Pleases, Allah gives the means and capacity.
